JP Open Streets 2024

Updated: Jul 23

It was a hot sunny Sunday for the Jamaica Plain Open Street 2024 on July 21, 2024. We had our regular spot camped outside, with a tent this year, of J.P. Licks. We had 12 tables set up, 8 dedicated to the tournaments, 2 for casual chess and 2 for the Boston Creative Chess Club.

After an early morning set up, we kicked off the morning blitz tournaments a little late due to some no shows. In group A, NM Matt Fishbein took first place, Kevin came in second after 1.5-0.5 result in the final round against Ryan. Ryan took third place. In Group B, newcomers Karanbir and Kaleem took first and second, while JP regular, Dee, was placed third. Full details below for Group A.

The afternoon tournaments kicked off at 2:00pm with an additional titled player in Group A. The newcomer, candidate master Jospeh St Pierre, took first place. NM Matt Fishbein took second and there was a joint third between Ryan and Zach. In Group B, JP Chess regular James won, second was and third went to Xavier.

Thanks go to our donors of prizes which included Kendall Dental Square, Monumental Market, On-Centre, The BYTE Shop, J.P. Licks, Boing Toy Shop and Papercut Bookstore. The Stealth Chess set from Boing Toy Shop was awarded to JP Chess regular Ryan so we hope to see some games with the set one Thursday evening.

In between the tournaments there was plenty of casual chess with people stopping by for a game or two. Thanks to Adam and James who helped with the setting up, administration during the day and packing up at the end.
